Mindanao: land of promise
Mindanao is awesome: there are so many nice spots to discover in the “land of promise” that you could easily travel for many years without getting bored by it. The capital of Mindanao is Davao City which is said to be one of the biggest cities in the world due to its large area. Davao is located in the south-east of the Philippines and probably one of the safest areas in the archipelago. Davao City entertains very good connections to other Philippine metropoles like Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro or Manila, of course.
Mindanao has not only many big cities to offer but also beautiful islands. Camiguin Island is one of those, and it is much promoted by many tourist agencies nowadays. No wonder, because the volcanic island is full of interesting sights like Mantigue Island, the Sunken Cemetary, Ardent Hot Springs, Hibok Hibok Volcano, White Island, Cold Springs and a lot more of nice places. There is also a lanzones festival in October, when people celebrate the sweet fruit which seems to be even sweeter in Camiguin Island.
You can reach Camiguin Island by airplane from Cebu or via ferry from Balingoan and Cagayan de Oro, the “city of golden friendship”.
Siargao would be another Island to discover. It is located in the north-east of Mindanao and might be reached by airplane departing from Mactan International Airport Lapu Lapu City / Cebu. There is also the option to take a boat going from Surigao City. Siargao Island is famous for Cloud 9, probably the best wave for surfers. But island hopping is as well one of the favourite activities. Many people compare the surroundings with the ones in Palawan. Bucas Grande is also quite near where you could find a cave to explore.
The last time (in August 2013), we were travelling Siargao Island by bicycle and took many nice pictures, expecially of some beaches going north near Alegria. Our road-trip took three days, starting from General Luna, going north to Pacifico, then further to Alegria and along the West coast back to Dapa.
That tour was part of our 4 weeks cycling experience across Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Siargao and Bucas Grande. We are going to write about our tour soon, so stay tuned to not miss our adventure-report:D You might follow us on Facebook our subscribe to our newsletter. Thank you!
