Triathlon in the Philippines

Triathlon is booming in the Philippines and we want to present our own Philippine triathlon calendar. The Philippine islands offer the best spots for triathlon events – no wonder that you can find races on many major islands. One of the most famous races is the Cobra Energy DrinkIronman 70.3 Philippines that will be held again in Cebu, 2nd of August 2015.

But there are also other great triathlons coming up like the Ironman 70.3 Subic, Challenge Philippines in Subic and Challenge Camsur. Many local events make our list complete that will be updated whenever we find a new interesting race:

November 23, 2014: Sandurot 113, Dumaguete City (Negros Oriental)
A race over the half ironman distance in the capital of Negros Oriental. Swim 1,9 km in front of Dumaguete Boulevard, bike 90 km towards Tambobo Bay and run a half marathon back on the Dumaguete Boulevard. Party on the Sandurot Festival! More information on www.facebook.com.

December 6, 2014: Enervon Activ 226 (3,8 km – 180 km – 42,2 km), Bohol
The only triathlon over the full “ironman distance” in the Philippines! Host will be the wonderful Bellevue Resort, Panglao Island. Find out more about this event on www.pinoyfitness.com and bikekingphilippines.com.

[Update]
We just got the information that like last year, the event was cancelled. This time it is due to “typhoon Ruby” that might have a landfall in the Philippines on December 5, 2014. More information here.

January 11, 2015: XTrail Off-Road Triathlon Challenge (Davao)

January 25, 2015: Cebu City Triathlon (CCT)
Distances: 750 m – 20 km – 5 km. Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), organized by Cornerstone who want to make it one of the most important sprint races in the country.

January 25, 2015: NAGT (Subic Leg), Dungaree Beach (Subic Bay Freeport)
Distances: 1,5 km – 40 km – 10 km; 750 m – 20 km – 5 km; 500 m – 16 km – 2,5 km. More information: www.swimbikerun.ph.

February 7, 2015: Tri Team Championship Series (Leg 3 / 2014), Dalaguete (Cebu)

February 8, 2014: XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon, Albay

February 21, 2015: Challenge Philippines (1,9 km – 90 km – 21,1 km)
The inaugural race was in February 2014 and was by many triathletes flagged as the toughest triathlon over the half ironman distance in the world! The bike ride over the seven hills of Bataan made sure that this event is a true challenge.

March 1, 2015: Tri United (Leg 1), Subic Bay (Olongapo)
Distances: 1,5 km – 40 km – 10 km; 750 m – 20 km – 5 km

March 8, 2015: Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay
The second half ironman race in the Philippines! We can only guess when there will finally be a full Ironman event…more information on www.ironman.com.

March 29, 2015: Tri Team Championship Series (Leg 1 / 2015), Santa Fe / Bantayan Island (Cebu)
Distances: 1,5 km – 40 km – 10 km; 750 m – 20 km – 5 km; Kiddie Tri

April 12, 2015: NAGT (Leg 3), Danao (Cebu)
Distances: 1km – 30 km – 5 km. Organized by Danao Sports / TRAP.

May 9-10, 2015: Dipolog Triathlon 102 (1,5 km – 60 km – 15 km)
The triathlon in Dipolog (Zamboanga del Norte, Mindanao) used to be an olympic distance. But next time it will be a bit longer. We like that idea and think that this event will be great as usual. It is definitely worth the trip to the beautiful capital of Zamboanga del Norte. They also offer various other distances.

May 24, 2015: Defy 123 (1 km – 110 km – 12 km)
Bohol seems to be the true hub of triathlon in the Philippines. The Defy 123 Triathlon will be held for the 3rd time already, with the Bellevue Resort as its host (who else?!). The transition area is climatised which might be pretty much unique. Swim in front of Doljo beach, cycle on Panglao island to Tagbilaran City and run a scenic route. More infos on www.defytri.com.

May 2015 (TBD): 8080 Triathlon, Bogo (Cebu)
Distances: 1,8 km – 65 km – 14 km; 900 m – 32,5 km – 7 km. Organized by Cornerstone

June 7, 2015: 5i50 Subic Bay (1,5 km – 40 km – 10 km)
Just one more Ironman event in the Philippines. This time over the olympic distance. More infos: www.ironman.com.

June 14, 2015: Tabuelan 111 (2 km – 88 km – 21 km)
Just another great race over the middle distance in Cebu! Many triathletes consider this event to be the preparation race for the Ironman 70.3 in Cebu following a few weeks after. Also the half distance will be offered (1 km – 44 km – 10,5 km). One of the best races in the Visayas and the whole country.

June 14, 2015: Challenge Camsur (1,9 km – 90 km – 21,1 km)
This is were it all began…the first Ironman 70.3 was held here and now the “Challenge Family” re-discovered Camarines Sur as triathlon battlefield. It will be a fast race – but without Cebuanos and triathletes from Mindanao. They will race in Tabuelan which will be on the very same day:D

July 5, 2015: Tri United (Leg 2), San Juan (Batangas)
Distances: 2 km – 60 km – 15 km; 1 km – 20 km – 5 km

July 19, 2015: Alegre Beach Resort Triathlon, Sogod (Cebu)
Distances: 1 km – 30 km – 5 km

August 2, 2015: Ironman 70.3 Philippines
The Cobra Engery Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines is the event in Asia, not only in the Philippines. About 2000 slots were sold within few hours – but not only this fact makes the event very special. Formula 1 pilot Jenson Button is a regular participant as well as some other famous celebrities. With astonishing Shangri-La´s Beach Resort the event has the perfect host on Mactan Island.
